MAGNETIC POLES
Magnetic poles are the areas that the magnetic force exerted by the magnet are strongest. Magnets have a north pole and a south pole. A bar magnet's poles are at opposite ends. If the bar magnet is suspended so that it turns freely, the north pole will point north. The ends of horseshoe-shaped magnets are the poles. The north and south poles of magnets are always connected by magnetic field lines, which are closest together at the poles.
